The brief

STEM Learning wanted teachers to draw more pupils into computing, girls in particular. Support came through the National Centre for Computing Education, which it runs.

The angle

In 2024 the week's theme was AI, and 93% of UK businesses said they faced an IT skills gap. Yet girls accounted for only 1 in 5 of those taking GCSE Computer Science in England. A skills story with a clear gender angle works for news bulletins and for longer education features alike.

On air

The interviews were shared between STEM Learning's chief executive and the person who leads its education strategy.

The result

The campaign delivered 9 items and 53 minutes on air, reaching 2.6 million. Sky News Radio and Greatest Hits Radio York & North Yorkshire were among the highlights.
